Little lights

I find myself going done memory lane quite a bit lately. The other day the lane I went down took me way back to when I was about 9 or 10 years old and we would go to the main downtown park in front of city hall and as a school we would do evangelism.

We would sing a few songs and the people would start gathering around. Then we would split up in teams- each one led by a  teacher and we'd go try to start conversations with by standers or those sitting on benches and tell them about Jesus.

This park was not your typical park with playgrounds and polished benches, full of fitness enthusiasts jogging or biking by. This park harboured another kind of crowd, depending on the day you went, you could find anything from drunks, homeless people, guys looking at dirty magazines as well as blue collar working class citizens.

It wasn't what you would call super kid friendly, but that was the point.

Our Christian school was very intentional about teaching us that what we had was worth sharing. Sure we probably didn't get our words right every time and probably felt intimidated too on ocassion, but the experience laid a foundation for us to remember that our little lights were meant to shine, not stay hidden under a bed, or walled up in our hearts.

Even though I may not be visiting parks and knocking on doors, I believe we are called to shine wherever we go and that's the mindset that's still alive in me to this day.

Let's  leave a Jesus trail everywhere we go- a scent of Jesus that overpowers the stenchiness in this world and maybe we can add one more piece to the puzzle of the picture God's already been painting of Himself in the hearts of many.
